Sorry Mr. Cantwell...
...but my privacy is much too important.
I am now in my second month of boycotting both Gillette and Walmart, and
have told dozens of other consumers of your exploits.
A complete PUBLIC RENUNCIATION by Gillette
of this outrage is what it will take to win me back.
A little respect please??
Jack B.
Mr. Cantwell,
I was shocked to hear that Gillette was using RFID devices
to photograph consumers without
permission. Please be advised that I will no longer
purchase Gillette products until I have
assurance that this ridiculous violation
of my rights has been stopped, and some form of apology issued.
Perhaps this is not important to you,
as I am only one person. However, I purchase all grooming products for my household and I have
a great deal of friends and co-workers.
And a very big mouth. I will be sure I put it to
use, telling everyone I come in contact
that they are being monitored by a shaving
cream company. I have to go now, I need to find out who your
biggest competitor is and start promoting
them voraciously.
Sincerely,
Sandra H....
Dear Dick
You have lost me, a customer of 20 years, due to your policy
of spying on consumers.
I'm trashing my Gillette products.
Adios amigo,
Love Lawrence
I have always bought Gillette products. However, after
reading about RFID, I will no longer buy your products. This is a
invasion of my privacy. You do have the right to keep track of your
product on the shelf. You do not have the right to photograph me and
track me through a store. You do not have the right to photograph or
track me after I leave the store. I am now going to my bathroom to
remove your products from my home...maybe you will get a kick out of following
your products through my trash, which by the way, is my personal business
that you do not have permission to photograph!
Done with you,

Dear Mr. Dick Cantwell,
This is to let you and your stockholders know that I am boycotting
your products immediately.
Thanks to Mary Starrett's article: http://www.newswithviews.com/Mary/starrett21.htm
and WorldNetDaily's article:

I no longer want to buy your products - ANY of them.
I imagine you value your privacy as much as I do mine, so
I'm sure you'll understand why I don't want to be photographed when picking
your product up off the store shelf! I suppose the technology is there
now to know when I'm actually using the razor or deodorant or any of your
other products.
Put yourself in my shoes, for a moment if you will:
I have no paid servant who can go to the store for me anonymously to purchase
photographable items for me.
In the name of technology and corporate greed, only God knows
who you will sell information like that to!
I hope you all will change your mind, because if you don't
- I won't. Gillette will be a nasty word in our house until the day
comes when you stop playing candid camera with unsuspecting comsumers' privacy.

Dear Mr. Cantwell,
I will boycott all Gillette products
until RFID project is ended
I am appalled by Gillette's entry into the field
of Big-Brother-type spying on citizens
with RFID. You may be assured
that I have ceased buying Gillette products
and will continue to boycott the company until such time as these intrusions cease for good.

RFID is
a violation of consumer rights!!!
The Auto-ID center EPC Symposium which
will discuss "The Best Thing Since The Bar Code" is only a way to get corporations
to utilize an "ear-tag" for humans to track us and follow our habits against
our will and without our consent. I hope that your attendees will
be smart enough to know they'll be tracked as well when these microchips
are inserted into their clothes and shampoo bottles. That when they
don't want to be seen or known, they'll be tracked by "Big-Brother."
-A very UNHAPPY consumer, which will
no longer be buying products used by corporations that utilize RFID chips
on their products
I already have to drive past 4 supermarkets
to avoid the ones that require "club cards". Now I have to cross Gillette
(as well as Duracell, Oral B and Braun) off of my shopping list.
I understand that your tracking, picture snapping system
is of value to deter shoplifters but I now feel as though I cannot purchase
your products because, IMO, you are watching me.
I have been purchasing your products for over 30 years, but
I will no longer buy your merchandise. I know losing customers here
and there is not what you care about. Corporations are just about
maximizing profits and do not care about consumers or employees.
Shame on you!
IMO, corporations such as Gillette by implementing ideas
such as your spy chips are a bit too similar to Big Brother from Orwell's
1984.
I urge you to reconsider implementing your spy technology.
Your misguided effort to deter theft is more than I can stand and reminds
me of the RIAA actions against teenagers. Corporations already have
the reputation of being quite dishonest (most of the thinking people I know
think of corporations as being crooked) and now they want to be spying on
individuals too?
You have the opportunity to help preserve privacy in America.
You must choose wisely. Choose to preserve individual rights or choose
to allow individual freedoms to be taken away, one by one. I do not
want Gillette tracking me around any store.

Hey Dick
I am e-mailing you to ask what right do you think you have
to take photos of people and track where the bought products go? Also, WHY
are you doing it? What benefits do you actually get from taking stupid photos
of people who buy the products. I find it very invading, and to be totally
honest from now on I wont be buying any of your products, nor will any of
my friends.
I pay enough money as it is for shaving products, and to
find out that you are spying on us is unbelievable. I am pretty sure this
is illegal to do without consent from the person buying.
Either way, I am going to report you to trading standards,
or speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau about this one, because it is not
right, especially when nothing what so ever has been mentioned.
At least if you put a big sign up saying "Smile your being
filmed if you buy any of these products" it would give the person the choice
to buy it or not.

I have made an educated decision concerning
Gillette using and Pushing RFID's, therefore I will not be buying any Gillette
Product every again.
Sir, I am disgusted with you, your company, and other companies

smart tracking technology and smart shelf technology in several products,
and I will refuse to buy any products from gillette until I can confirm that

Dear Mr. Cantwell,
I have recently discovered your Gillette spy shelf and the
associated hidden camera used
to track customers. I want you to know that I
will be boycotting Gillette products
including your Oral-B toothbrushes,
Braun appliances, Right Guard, Soft and Dry, Dry Ideas
and Duracell batteries.
I will not allow a company to invade on my personal shopping

that I will be letting everyone I know about
this and encourage them to also boycott your
company.
Please reconsider putting customer privacy first.

Mr. Cantwell,
I am appalled that a company like yours, (of whom I have bought
many products and am a huge fan of) would stoop to such a degrading level!
How dare you think it is legal and moral to spy on the unwitting consumer.
What are you afraid of? Are you afraid of the answers given by simply having
an employee ask legitimate questions of consumers in person? When you invade
my civil liberties, you go TOO FAR! I would urge anyone to boycott your company!
You clearly are not interested in the privacy of your consumers. What would
you do if we as consumers chose to spy on you? What if we went through your
financial records and see who you have been in bed with? I had hoped a company
that has existed as long as you have, would utilize their brains for better
endeavors. If you want the truth, ASK FOR IT, don't try to sneak around
so you can run if the truth hurts.

Dear Dick,
I am a retired police officer in good standing from a large
police department. Some one emailed you on the boycott website wanting to
support you and wondering why everyone else was feeling so violated about
the spy cameras etc.
Well I can tell you, I have nothing
to hide. I am law abiding. But, no let me make that larger---BUT...I still
don't want to be spied on. It's the principle of it all. Criminals get their
photos (mugshots) taken against their will when they are arrested. I don't
like the feeling of it being without my permission. I am not a criminal
and when did I give you permission to start taking my photo?
I can see that if something is not
done about all this spy gear and chips, a good lawsuit will take care of
you! I guess that just might be my prerogative to do this since I am still
a free citizen last time I checked. As far as I know Gillette products weren't
a matter of national security that photos had to be taken and a chip placed
in my purchases. I just bought a Oral B toothbrush and I'm going to take
it back to the store in protest and tell the store why I am returning it.
I am going to encourage all my friends on the police department too. We love
our freedom and will not compromise it. This freedom is worth fighting for.

Dear Sir,
It has recently been brought to my attention the fact that
you have started to incorporate Radio Frequency Identification chips in some
of your products, maybe all - this is not yet clear to me. Personally
I find the prospect and the implications of such a move as threatening, disturbing
and quite possibly an abuse or at least encumbering to the freedom one should
expect to receive in a democratic (for democratic I idealistically mean
free) country.
There also to my eyes seems to have
been a nearly total mainstream media blackout (in the UK) to this 'new security
measure'. Recently apart from a small piece in The Guardian and a small feature
on BBC's Monday's news broadcasts I have failed to observe any real analysis
and public awareness caused by this bold step forward that you have undertaken.
If there is no cause for alarm I would greatly appreciate a reply explaining
why my feelings should be placated.
When a few months ago I discovered
that Benetton where undertaking similar endeavours with there products, experiments
which I believe other companies such as Coca-Cola where observing with baited
breath, my conscience was disturbed. This caused me to inquire to a journalistic
friend of mine as to the possibilities of the sort of actions and consequences
of RFID chips placed in household products. Basically i was informed that
in the UK any such use of RFID in the afore mentioned manner would be an
infringement of civil liberties and would more than likely be illegal. Upon
writing to Benetton they told me they where stopping there experiments of
placing RFID in there clothing products. Unfortunately I will now be stopping
buying Gillette products and other products by companies you own (no more
Gillette Sensor Excell for me which is a shame for the both of us as I thought
they where very good blades that didn't just tear the hair from my face)
until I hear some sort of reply, hopefully a positive one. My apologies for
Carbon Copying this letter to Boycott Gillette products organisation. I came
upon them by accident, considering the circumstances and as they asked politely
to show some token of support in this given situation I hope this will not
prejudice a quick and informative reply from you.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Mr. Cantwell,
It has come to our attention that
Gillette is placing RFID chips in their products,
ostensibly to:
A. Keep track of purchases?
B. Improve process
for re~stocking?
C. Determine their
customer's buying habits?
or
D. You ENJOY
having your company & products under BOYCOTT !!!
As a comsumer, Mr. Cantwell, we,
nor ANYONE with whom we have to do (which includes
thousands of folks) REFUSE to be manipulated
by such a dastardly scheme as Gillette, as well as,
other companies, plans to perpetrate AGAINST
the public.
Rest assured there will be MANY
more voices added to the outcry of those who've
taken a stand AGAINST Gillette and ALL
other companies with the audacity to play "THE
SPY CHIP" game.

Dear Mr. Cantwell ,
As the Gillette Executive and chairman of the MIT Auto-ID
Center that developed this whole RFID-scheme, we d'like you to know that
we rather grow beards than buying anylonger any Gillette , Duracell , Oral-B
etc. products . RFID-tags everywhere , spy-cams in the shelfs to track consumers
behaviours and so on - thank's a lot for this real confident treatement and
stick it where you like it too, O.K. ?
PS : Maybe the Iraqis don't care this much about RFID-tags
at this present moment, maybe you
try it once over there . If in doubt, ask Uncle Bush.

I am outraged to learn that Gillette
is photographing people and tracking them with RFID devices. As a result,
I will join millions of others in boycotting Gillette products.

Dear Mr. Cantwell,
Allow me to say that I have just recently begun using the
Mach 3 Razor blades after having used Trak II and Trak II Atra for as long
as they have been on the market. So far I have been pleased with the results.
However, I am very disappointed to hear that Gillette is beginning
to use the RFID chips and at the least condoning the secret photographing
of customers. I see no need for such an invasion of privacy.
Because of this, I will discontinue the use of any Gillette
products until such time as the company agrees to stop using the RFID chips
and vows to not do business with a supplier, distributor, wholesaler or retailer
who does use RFID chips.
Let us save all ourselves a lot of grief and "just say NO!"
to RFID chips.
Sincerely,

I hereby declare that I will no longer
be buying any products from
your company including:
Gillette
Oral-B
Duracell Batteries
Silk Epil brand
Deodorants: Right Guard, Soft &
Dri, Dry Idea
Shaving cream: Gillette Series, Satin
Care
The reason is because I oppose any companies that use and/or
support RFID in their products.
(This will also include a
declaration to no longer buying products
from Walmart and Target
to be emailed separately.)
I will also be sponsoring a test market direct mailing campaign
to further explain what RFID is, why
it is of concern for the consumer,
and your companies promotion of said RFID technology.
This will help educate the public
that they indeed do have a
choice, and they do not need to support
companies that ignore the consumers'
desires.

Mr. Cantwell,
Your invasion of privacy in using RFD technology in your

Besides the privacy issue, it is certain you will pass the cost

grossly over priced. The road to hell is always paved with
good intentions and your scheme is the poster child for this old adage.

comments: One way to fight the spy shelves used by Gillette:
Hold a sign over your face that reads "Boycott the Spies
at Gillette" and move the tagged items, triggering the camera. If a bunch
of folks do this, perhaps they might get the idea that they are losing
money. This works even better if the hand holding the sign also holds a
rival product which you then purchase.
When curious shoppers ask for an explanation, you can add
them to the protest. Just loan them your sign.
Be sure to buy other things at the store, to keep from
getting tossed out as an annoyance. managers tend not to toss out folks who
are going to buy $75 worth of merchandise.
Dear Dick,
We have been to the boycott Gillette web site and we are

I certainly hope that this is just a ruse. If it turns out to be true,
you may rest assured that another Gillette product will never enter my household.
The unmitigated gall of you people never ceases to amaze me.
Good Day,

Dear Mr. Cantwell,
It has come to my attention that Gillette is involved with
putting RFID into its products to be used on the customers as a means of
security. As a purchaser of Gillette products this concerns me very
much since this is a surreptitious invasion of privacy. There is also the
unknown health hazard on the human body if this technology saturates and
permeates our living space.
Therefore I must protest in the most vigorous terms that
this technology not be used but be set aside in deference to our right
of privacy and to avoid any potential ill effects on our health should
the intensity and magnitude of them increase dramatically.
I am aware that a mere protest can have little or no effect
in the ocean of hidden agendas or potential profits so personally if they
do insinuate themselves (RFID) into products that would be in close proximity
to me and mine I will boycott them and trust those agents which have the
required knowledge and sophisticated technology to keep me apprised of the
various forms and hiding places wherein these chips might find themselves.
Sincerely,
Eleanor L. T....
Dear Mr. Cantwell,
I will not be purchasing any Gillette products in the future.
I will not support any person or business that uses tracking chips. I support
the boycott on Gillette products, and will encourage my family and friends

Mr. Cantwell,
I believe this RFID tagging idea is a bad idea.
Your company may be looking at potential lawsuits with this situation coming
into the news. I myself will be throwing away my Gillette Sensor Excel

and oral b products. I will never buy them again till you stop this
RFID deal. I will also voice my concerns to my friends, family, and
anyone else I talk to.
Thanks,

Dear Sir,
What is this I'm hearing about Gillette literally spying
on consumers? What exactly is the motivation behind this? Why can't you
just make a good product and let the consumers make their own decision?
That's the basis of capitalism. The more you disrespect the consumer, the
less chance this system has of
surviving.

Dear Mr. Cantwell,
My husband and I, and many friends and co-workers of us
with whom we have shared the information about your implementation of Radio
Frequency IDs with, are very up-set about your decision.
We feel strongly that this is an insult to our privacy

is detrimental to our health. Here we try to live healthy, buy organic etc.,
have a regular exercise program and you don't give it a 2nd thought that
all your customers out there are being treated unfairly BY YOU ! You
do not even realize that you are on the wrong side because of greed.
So many other companies will do the same and before you know it your own
house is full of it as well .....you might even have RFID in your cheese

are not only hurting your helpless customers who trust you. but also yourself,
